From a Simple Concrete Slab to a Downtown Estes Park Gathering Place

The SLAB Outdoor Pub & Beer Garden sits in the heart of downtown Estes Park at 116 E. Elkhorn Avenue, just steps from Moraine Avenue and the Historic Park Theatre.

At first glance, the name is simple: The SLAB began with exactly that — a concrete slab in the middle of downtown Estes Park.

But the story of this property goes back much further.

The site was once part of the former Park Theatre Mall property. After a devastating fire in 2009 destroyed the mall, a large portion of the property was left open. What remained was an opportunity to create something new in a location that had long been part of the downtown Estes Park community.

The property began being used seasonally as an outdoor beer garden in the years that followed. After the previous Barrel Beer Garden operation left, The SLAB Outdoor Pub & Beer Garden was developed and created in 2017through Park Theater Mall LLC.

What started as a mostly empty downtown patio was transformed into a lively seasonal destination for locals and visitors alike.

Building The SLAB

The goal was never to create just another bar.

The vision for The SLAB was to build an outdoor gathering place where people could relax, meet friends, listen to live music, discover Colorado-made products, enjoy great food, and experience a little bit of the personality that makes Estes Park special.

Over the years, The SLAB grew into a bustling outdoor beer garden capable of welcoming hundreds of guests, featuring a large selection of Colorado beers and beverages along with live entertainment throughout the summer season.

Music became one of the heartbeats of The SLAB. Local and regional musicians have filled the patio with live performances, creating the kind of casual atmosphere where someone might stop for one drink and find themselves staying for the entire evening.

A New Chapter

After being closed during the summer of 2024, the property began another chapter.

The SLAB returned with a renewed focus on being more than an outdoor pub. Today, it is evolving into a combination of beer garden, outdoor entertainment venue, artisan marketplace, food destination, and community gathering space.

The property is operated by Red A Slab LLC, with the site owned by Park Theater Mall LLC.

Our vision continues to grow.

Along with Colorado beverages and live entertainment, The SLAB now welcomes food vendors, bakers, artists, makers, and other small businesses. The goal is to create a downtown space where visitors can discover something different each time they stop by.

Keeping Downtown Local

There are plenty of places to grab a drink.

The SLAB is about the experience around it.

It is about sitting outside on a beautiful Estes Park afternoon. Hearing live music while the mountains rise above downtown. Finding a locally made piece of art. Trying something from one of our food vendors. Meeting the person sitting at the next table. Bringing friends back later that evening.

And sometimes it is simply about finding a comfortable place to sit down, slow down, and enjoy being in Estes Park.

The SLAB may have started with a concrete patio, but over the years it has become something much bigger:

• A piece of downtown Estes Park history.

And we are still creating the story.
